British troops storming a Maori stockade or Pah during 1864 Maori War in New Zealand. The Maori stockades, or Pahs were well defended, as the 70th (Surrey) Regiment discovered at the fight at the Great Pah. It took three years and eight British battalions with local volunteer support before the British could defeat the Maories.
