WHY NOT LET THE QUARTERLY CONFERENCEELECT STEWARDS? The law says the pastor nominates and the quarterlyconference elects, but the practice amounts to the ap-pointment of the stewards by the pastor. Would it notbe better for the pastor to nominate, say double the num-ber of stewards that is desired, and then let the confer-ence elect by ballot the number desired? This would beeasy to do in the stations where all are well acquainted. We tried this out in our last pastorate to good advartage. We needed 18 stewards, the pastor nominated iand then the members of the quarterly conference electeby ballot, writing 18 names on each ballot. Most of th18 needed were elected on the first ballot.
