In some cases itis desirable to begin the bath at a temperature of 85° to 90°,lowering it, after the first few minutes, to /s^. The durationof the bath should ordinarily be 15 to 20 minutes. Forchronic congestion, a bath at 65-^ to 75° affords most satis-factory results. The cold must always be accompanied bythe hot foot bath (104° to 110°). Physiological ^- The prolonged cold sitz causesvery pronounced effects upon the pelvic circulation. Thecontraction of the cutaneous branches of the internal iliactends to produce hyperemia of the pelvic viscera, while thereflex effect is to contract the pelvic vessels. If the parts arerubbe
