It was a long and tedious pull for my dogs,as the snow in many places was quite deep and hadnot been suf^ciently wind-beaten to support they kept bravely to their work, though nothingis more disagreeable to the Eskimo dog than a slow, 2 72 Northward over the Great Ice steady drag.
