The Annual Abbotts Bromley Horn Dance. Pictured, the first dance of the day outside the church. The folk dancers remove the horns from the walls of St Nicholas Church at 8am and proceed to dance all day visiting nearby villages, returning the horns for another year to the chuch walls at 8pm. A blessing service at 7am takes place led by Revd Simon 2022. The horn dance has been taking place since the 12th century.
The Abbots Bromley Horn Dance is an English folk dance dating back to the Middle Ages. The dance takes place each year in Abbots Bromley, a village in Staffordshire, England. The modern version of the dance involves reindeer antlers, a hobby horse, Maid Marian, and a Abbots Bromley Horn Dance, performed at the Barthelmy Fair in August 1226, is one of the few ritual rural customs to survive the passage of time. Today the Horn Dance, which takes place annually on Wakes Monday, offers a fascinating day out attracting visitors from all over the world. The Horn Dancers comprising six Deer-men, a Fool, Hobby Horse, Bowman and Maid Marian, perform their dance to music provided by a melodian player at locations throughout the village and its surrounding farms and pubs. A walk of about 10 miles (or 16 kilometres).
