SUNFLOWER FAMILY (Astcracm) Diffuse Kmjjwd (cmtaurca Mm) - Category 1 Noxious Weed Diffuse knapweed is a biennial or short-lived perennial forb that grows to a height of 1 to 3 feet. It has a taproot and only one or very few stalks. The tip of each branch has a single flower head. The flowers are most commonly white with the upper portion of the bract narrowing to a distinct spine. Often the outer most flowers are sterile. The bracts are yellowish green with a light brown margin. Seeds are achenes, dark brown, 1 inch long, with faint pale brown or ivory lines. Diffuse knapweed grows well in dry sites and is found on waste grounds, fields, and along roadways in many areas of western Montana.
