Deegan, left, nephew of Thorne, reveals the memorial near Grufflingen, Belgium, Sept. 24, 2018. Thorne was posthumously awarded the MOH in 1945 for displaying courageous fighting qualities and inflicting costly casualties on the enemy. He ensured the success of his patrol's mission by sacrificing his life.
