Columbus Avenue is one of the finest streets in Boston, and runs from theCommon southwesterly towards Roxbury, beiug a mile and a half long, straightand level, and eighty feet wide. It is paved with a preparation of asphalt,which gives a smooth hard surface. At the sides are long lines of blocks ofresidences, — brick, marble, brownstone, and Ohio stone, — with occasional opentriangular spaces where other streets cross diagonally.
