A document tube for messengers, from the reign of Emperor Franz III (1637 - 57). Made of turned lindenwood. Hinged lid reinforced with iron straps and closure with latch for a padlock. Loops for a lanyard on either side. Original colour coating in red and white, the front with the crowned cipher "FIII" in yellow. The colour partially worn, minor losses.
