Richard I Coeur de Lion (Lionheart), 12th century King of England, 1528. Richard (1157-1199), shown here in armour mounted on a caparisoned horse, became king in 1189. He spent little of his reign in England, setting out on the Third Crusade in 1190, and from 1194 onwards fighting to regain territories in France. From a metrical romance Richard Coeur de Lion.
