The originator, as well as planner, of the design ofthis palace is Doctor Don Manuel a Fuentes, alreadywell known in connexion with his elegantly illus- 332 TWO YEARS IN PERU. [CHAP. Its architect was SenorDon Antonio Leonardo, an Italian; and the totalspace allotted to the gardens, palace, machineshow-rooms, theatre, coffee-houses, concert-room,animal cages, and parterres comprises an area of192,000 metres, or about forty-eight square PRINCIPAL ENTRANCE TO LIMA EXHIBITION PALACE. Situated in the suburbs at the southern side ofthe Penitentiary, tlie Exhibition Palace of Limais one of the most stately and graceful buildingsin the capital of Peru. It stands at the distanceof about a mile from the principal square, or plaza,where we see the palace of Pizarro.
