Otahiti, after Giinther (Fische Siidsee). mouth is closed ; upper lip narrow, not \ diameter of eye ; a lanceolate space between rami of mandible ; preeorbital with the edge rather strongly denticulated ; 3 or 4 series of scales on the cheek. Pectoral f to once length of head; no scaly process above the axil. Caudal feebly emarginate, as long as head. Caudal peduncle as long as deep. 26-27 scales in longitudinal series, 9 in transverse series. Golden, olive on the back, with more or less distinct dark streaks following the series of scales; greater part of pectoral, soft dorsal, and anal black or blackish. Total length 270 millim.
