Butafter a while Maryland prospered andgrew rich by raising tobacco. Themoney of Maryland as of Virginia wastobacco, and the two colonies weremuch alike in traits of their business and social life. After the settlement of New England by Puritans, n^and Maryland by Catholics, there was a period of aboutthirty years in which no new colonies were this period occurred the Great Rebellion in England,in which Charles I was beheaded, and his son Charles IIwas kept out of England by the Puritans under OliverCromwell. But, after Cromwells death, Charles II wasbrought back to the throne of England in 1660. Thisis known as the Restoration. After the Restoration there was a new interest in cjcolonies.
