Cedar Eapids was given first directors, as Greene, John Weare, H. G. Angle, S. C. Beaver, and S. , which positions we held until the road was built toCedar Eapids. This new departure on the part of Cedar Eapidsintensified the feeling of rivalry between her and Marion. Adirect line between Clinton and Cedar Eapids, would leaveMarion off the route; besides, the natural obstacles were lessfrom Mt. Vernon to the river, and thence to Cedar Marionites denounced us as traitors to the original scheme,with a malignant intent to leave them out in the cold.
