It is evident that in the application of the forceps, the same oblique position will be given to the instrument, andthat the mode of applying theblades will be exactly similar tothe one just described; (see ) The same spiral move-ment, for placing the femaleblade somewhat anteriorly, mustbe executed, and at the propertime rotation of the forehead andnot the occiput, towards the sym-physis pubis, must not be forgot-ten ; when this is done, the deli-very is accomplished as describedin the case of the occipito-sacralposition. In the right occipito-cotyloidposition, the head being placedobliquely, the forceps will have asimilar direction; but here the female branch, which will lie in the posterior part of the pelvis, and to the right side, must be first introduced. After this hasbeen done, the male branch must be passed up in front of the left. 364 FORCEPS. sacro-iliac symphysis, when, by means of a spiral movement, itshould be drawn forward, so as to have its convex surface nearlybehind the left acetabulum. When thus applied, our tractionshould be made in the line of the axis of the inferior strait, at thesame time that the occiput is, by a movement of rotation, broughtunder the pubic arch. In tJte left occipito-sacro-iliac position, the head being placedobliquely in the direction of the right oblique pelvic diameter, theapplication of the forceps will be accomplished in the modedescribed for the right occipito-cotyloid position. The femalebranch will be introduced first and to the right side, while themale branch will be placed to the left posterior part of the pelvis,to be brought, by means of a spiral movement, towards the leftcotyloid cavity. When thus applied the occiput must be rotatedtowards the coccyx, so that the delivery may be accomplished, asdescribed for th
