Breast Plate seashell section Mochica Classic Period 1-800 AD
In order to provide for and attend to religious needs, the Mochica knew how to bedeck themselves with beautiful ornaments and the use of exquisite jewelry. The evidence of this lies forever recorded and very clearly portrayed in their pictorial ceramics where, luxurous details allows us to observe the elaborate costumes and attire of these personages in the course of their ritual ceremonies. This breast plate or pectoral covering has been crafted from plates of Strombus and Spondylus Seashells, these latter of the 'calcifer' variety. Additionally incisions have been applied in perfect sequence and each plate has been almost imperceptibly indented in order to obtain a sensation of great lightness.
