Crater on Vulcano, an Italian volcanic island in the Tyrrhenian Sea. The picture is probably showing the Gran Cratere. Vulcano is host to one of the four active volcanoes in Italy. The last eruption on Vulcano was during 1888 to 1890. After an early 19th century engraving by William Watts from a work by Luigi Mayer.
