Compton Farm, Tettenhall, Early 20th cent. A farmer using an early horse-drawn ploughing machine on Compton Farm. It is unknown when Compton Farm in Compton Road was built, but it belonged to the Wheeler family who rented it from a Clara Elwell, widow of Reverend W. F. Elwell, from 1883. They lived in it for many years until it was sold in 1925 by Alfred Wheeler. Crops harvested in the early 1890s included wheat, barley, swedes, turnips, parsnips, potatoes, sprouts, carrots, cabbage, kidney beans and celery. Animals including ducks and pigs were also kept there, and butter was produced. It is unknown to whom the farm passed on to.
