JAMESTOWN, or Damhead, a village, in the pa-rish of BoNHiLL, county of Dumbarton; containing314 inhabitants. This place, heretofore a small,hamlet,has latterly increased in population and extent, owingto the numerous and flourishing calico-printing andbleaching establishments which have sprung up in theparish, and in which the population here are chieflyemployed. JAMESTOWN, a village, in the parish of Contin,county of Ross and Cromarty ; containing 115 inha-bitants. JANETOWN, a village, in the parish of Lochcar-RON, county of Ross and Cromarty, 1 mile (S.) from 4 H 2 JED B J ED B r>. BuT^h Seal. Lochcarron ; containing 513 inhabitants. It is situatedon the eastern shore of the Carron loch, an arm of thesea, into which the Carron water falls about two milesnorthward of the village. From a very small hamletconsisting of only three families, it has risen latterlyinto comparative importance, in consequence, princi-pally, of the division of land into lots. The high roadleading from Dingwall to the western coast passesthrough ; and there is a post-office, where the mailsarrive three times a week. On the Carron is a goodsalmon-fishery.
