The result was most satisfactory. In bloom outdoors are forsythias, ca- mellias, wild currants, doronicums, Eng- lish primroses, daffodils and Japanese quinces. S. W. W. SAN FRANCISCO. The Market. Easter business broke all previous rec- ords, according to reports from various downtown establishments, and it is gratifying to all branches of the trade that the demand for flowers has kept up particularly well since the holiday. The elaborate Easter displays helped to stimulate sales to a considerable extent, as many people after placing their own orders brought friends into the stores to see the wonderful exhibits. Stock was in prime condition both as regards plants and cut flowers. There was plenty of almost everything to go around, except callas, but the market was not overcrowded, especially in view of the active shipping demand. Easter lilies enjoyed their usual strong position, but they met with more competition from other varieties of flowers this year, principally roses. The well formed and full-blooming ramblers cleaned up close- ly at most of the stores and cut roses also had a splendid call, the supply be- ing adequate in nearly all desirable grades. Many roses were shipped out. Many Easter lilies were a little late and they are still coming in quite freely, the demand keeping up fairly well. These flowers show excellent quality this year, most of the stalks carrying from six to fourteen blooms. There were plenty of violets for Eas
