Keeping Sunday, according to King James's Book of Sports of 1617, in which he declared that it was lawful to play some sports on Sundays, for example archery, dancing, leaping, vaulting, or any other such harmless recreation, but forbade bear-baiting, bull-baiting, "interludes" and bowling.
