Maoling Mausoleum near Xian, Shaanxi Province, China. Ancient old stone carving of ox dates from Western Han Dynasty


One of the famous 2000 year old lifesize stone carvings from the Western Han Dynasty 206 BC AD 24. Carved from pegmatite. Outside the tomb of heroic "General Huo Qubing". He won several important victories over the northern Hun and on the generals early death Emperor Wu Di ordered the generals tomb to be constructed beside his own in the Maoling Mausoleum west of Xian. The group of sixteen carvings are highly regarded internationally as exceptional examples of early Chinese art.
