Those migrants that pass the foot of the Chimney continue among or above the trees at the top of the talus to emerge at the Break. Others farther down the slope either follow the road upward, or, upon reaching the steep rock slide which terminates the base of the talus, ascend to the Break. At this strategically located point daily observations were made for several weeks each year from 1936 to 1946. Figures 4, 6A, and 6B show the paths of birds at this point. It will be noted that while some turn back at the Chimney others con- tinue into the Forillon.
