GIRONS AND ST. LIZIER abaci, which are ornamented; most of the bases havespurs, and many of them deep hollow caps are elaborately carved, with great variety ;the variations in the style of the profiles of the archesand of the bases suggest repairs or a partial rebuildingin the twelfth or thirteenth century. The capital ofthe group of four pillars illustrated is plainly work ofthe eleventh century. The other two are twelfth,one being of a more developed type of design thanthe other. In the front of the drawing showingseveral arches is a cap of another type, of which thereare several examples, and farther along the row aretwo types of interlacings, both of which are are also a few caps of a later date, and of a typebased upon acanthus foliage treated very colonnettes (of which only a few are missing) areof varicoloured marbles, sometimes so much weatheredas to look like the fibres of wood.
