View N of Dinas Emrys citadel on it's rocky outcrop above the Afon Glaslyn river, with Yr Aran to rear & the cloud-capped peak of Snowdon beyond. Late Roman & Dark Age defences associated with the legend of Vortigern, a British leader exiled from SE England, the boy Ambrosius aka Merlin (Emrys in Welsh) & two battling dragons who emerged from the fort's pool. Later remains are from a castle of the Welsh Princes, probably Llywelyn ab Iorwerth (d. 1240). Part of Sygun Copper Mine on foreground hillside, former summer dwellings (hafotai) on hills behind the fort.
