A Spanish Colonial splendid stirrup iron,Mexico,17th/18th century A large stirrup iron forged in several pieces,richly cut with decorative lions and dogs among leavy wines on both sides. Old inventory number on the inside. Height 38 cm. This form of stirrup,known as an "estribon de cruz" was developed in Mexico during the 17th century,and was the type preferred for cavalry use there.
