First attempt by Guyton de Morveau to direct a balloon, Dijon, France, 1784 (1890s). Louis-Bernard Guyton de Morveau (1737-1816) was a French chemist and politician. After the French Revolution he formed a corps of balloonists for the French Army, flying in a balloon himself at the Battle of Fleurus in 1794. From the series The Dream of Flight.
