George Albert Draper was born in Hopedale, Worcester County,Massachusetts, November 4, 1855, the second son of George and Hannah(Thwing) Draper. He received his primary and secondary education inhis native town, and after a two years course in mechanical engineermgat the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston, he entered the employof the firm of Geo. Draper & Son, and in 1877 was admitted a member ofthe firm. He subsequently served as treasurer of the Hopedale MachineCompany.
