Female costume in the reign of Richard III, 1483-1485, from Royal MS She wears an elaborately embroidered skirt, a tall hat with veil, a velvet bodice, with fur-trimmed shoulder mantle. Handcolored engraving from "Civil Costume of England from the Conquest to the Present Period" drawn by Charles Martin and etched by Leopold Martin, London, Henry Bohn, 1842. The costumes were drawn from tapestries, monumental effigies, illuminated manuscripts and portraits. Charles and Leopold Martin were the sons of the romantic artist and mezzotint engraver John Martin (1789-1854).
