Vintage photo of Irish-American boxer Joe Coburn (1835 - 1890). Coburn, born in County Armagh, Ireland, moved to the US at a young age and settled in New York City. He claimed the Heavyweight Championship of America in 1862 after John C Heenan refused to fight him and relinquished the title in 1865 when he retired. Coburn later came out of retirement and twice drew with the great English boxer Jem Mace in 1871.
