Cape Reinga is the northwestern most point of New Zealand's mainland. Just here the waters of Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean are meeting. According to Moari myths the spirits of the dead depart the mainland at Cape Reinga to reach Hawaiki which is their traditional homeland Hawaiki. Cape Reinga lighthouse was build in 1941 and is still in operation. It is also a very common New Zealand icon and touristic hotspot.
