An Ottoman silver-mounted shamshir, circa 1840 Unusually narrow, curved single-edged blade with smith's mark on the obverse side. Geometrically engraved, silver quillons and grip strap, riveted rhinoceros horn grip panels with finger rests. Wooden scabbard stitched with silver wire and covered with shagreen leather, the suspension bars and the silver fittings engraved en suite. All silver parts with stamped thugra of Abdul Mecid (1839 - 1861), the quillons with French importation stamp (swan within oval).
