Old cannons from the Dutch and English colonial wars at the the Muizenberg, Surfers Corner, train station overlook the False Bay. The Dutch East India Company controlled the Cape until 1795 when the English seized it during a Dutch revolt in order to prevent it from falling into the hands of the French. It was later returned to the Dutch in 1803 but just three years later the English once again seized the cape from Holland who were controlled by the French during the Napoleonic wars. These cannons reportedly were used during the 1795 Battle of Muizenberg naval battle between the Dutch and English.
