Angioedema of the lower lip of an 89-year-old woman as a reaction to taking the ACE inhibitor drug ramipril. This drug is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and congestive heart failure. The swelling is a response of the body's immune system to the drug. If the swelling is excessive, it can obstruct breathing. Treatment is to alleviate the symptoms and if possible to avoid the underlying cause.
