Megalosaurus dinosaur. Illustration of an early reconstruction of the dinosaur Megalosaurus from the 1850s. This was the first dinosuar to be discovered and recognised as such. This illustration is based on Owen's reconstruction of 1854. Very few fossils had been found of this or any dinosaur at the time, so much of the reconstruction was speculation.
