A creole. A loose figure from a Diorama of Gerrit Schouten, representing a Creole man, standing to the right. Both hands are lifted. The man wears a blue shawl decorated with red and white motifs and equipped with a white trim. He wears bracelets and anklets and is exposed. The attitude of his hands suggests that he originally held a musical instrument. A very similar figure from a diorama of a slave dance in possession of the Barbados Museum (Medendorp Diorama XV) plays a Benta, an arcuate string instrument or flute.
