The city, founded in 1225, but was built on one of the oldest human settlements in the Czech Republic. With well developed industry (focused around food-processing technology and electronics manufacturing) and education sector, it remains one of the largest and most important cities in the Czech Republic. Its population in 2012 was 93,490 people.
