Manyyears ago the statement was made, andafterward vehemently doubted, that thefamily of Richard Williams, of Taunton,was connected by ties of blood with thatof Oliver Cromwell. This fact was estab-lished by the wonderful patience and per-severance, and at considerable expense,of the late Hon. Joseph Hartwell Wil-liams, of Augusta, Maine, a former gov-ernor of Maine, a direct descendant ofRichard Williams, of Taunton.
