Anaesthetic inhaler, 1876. This is a Clover inhaler, designed by Dr. Joseph Clover (1825-1882), an English physician. Clover invented and improved a many pieces of medical apparatus, particularly in the field of safer anaesthesia. Inhalers delivered air and controlled quantities of volatile anaesthetic liquids, such as ether or chloroform, to a patient during surgery.
