In 1825, a tax of one-fourth of one percent was laid on all the property in the village, and Canal Street,Michigan Street, Champlain Street, and a part of Seneca (now WestThird) Street were laid out. In 1828, a tax of two mills per dollarwas ordered and, when the village trustees appropriated $200 to putthe village in proper order, it was earnestly asked what on earth the. A. W. trustees could find in the village to spend two hundred dollars on?In 1829, the first fire engine was bought for $285, a market wasestablished and regulated by ordinance, and the delinquent tax listwas rather robust. In 1830, a village seal and a tax of half a millon the dollar were ordered. In 1831, Prospect Street from Ontario toErie ( Ninth) Street was laid out. In 1832, a tax of two millson the dollar was ordered; Dr. David Long and Orville B. Skinnerwere made a committee to buy a village hearse, harness and bier;and, in fear of the coming of the cholera, the first board of healthwas appointed as is set forth in the following record: At a meet-ing of the board of trustees of the village of Cleaveland, on the 24thof June, 1832. present J. W. Allen, D. Long, P. May, and S. Pease,convened for the appointment of a board of health, in pursuance of aresolution of a meeting
