The inch medium gun was used on Royal Navy ships during World War 2, but was subsequently largely replaced by the inch weapon. Although a smaller calibre, the inch gun fired a heavier and more effective shell over a longer range. This example of the inch gun is located at the Explosions Exhibition, at Gosport, Hampshire.
