They seldom remained in thesame spot two or three nights in succession, but rambled fromplace to place wherever they found food and water. For thesick they would sometimes build a wretched hut by stickinga few short poles into the ground, tying them at the top, andcovering the whole with grass and reeds. The Indians would assist at the instructions and at holyMass in the garments given them, but as soon as dismissedthey would put the clothes aside as troublesome, and also inorder to escape the ridicule of other Indians.
