Oak fern (Gymnocarpium dryopteris) and greater stitchwort flowers (Stellaria holostea) growing in early spring from decayed autumn leaves. This area is in the wooded valley of Hareshaw Dene, found in Northumberland National Park, England. Hareshaw Dene is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). An SSSI is usually created to conserve the plants and animals found there, often in particularly rich diversity or as part of an ancient ecology, such as a mature woodland area.
