Marines from D Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, occupy a trench previously dug by the Viet Cong. The photograph was taken on August 22, 1965, during Operation "Starlight" on the Van Troung Peninsula in Vietnam. The Marines overran the Viet Cong position after engaging in combat.
