An 18th century coloured print showing a view of the city of York (England) looking towards the city from the river, showing the former medieval Ouse Bridge and St William’s Chapel at one end, which was later, after the Reformation, transformed into apartments. It was demolished in 1810 and the current bridge completed in 1821. The Georgian pathway or promenade in the picture , 'New Walk' was created in the 1730's and was popular with the gentry who saw it as a quiet space for the fashion conscious to stroll and socialise away from the bustling narrow streets of the city.
