THE SHORT STRAP APPLIED loop, keeping the buckle on the outside, put the loop over the foot, then raise the foot and pass the strap around the fore arm from the inside, and buckle it tight; this holds the foot up firmly. The Long Strap.—This is used for bringing the animal to his knees, w^iich is done by pulling up one fore foot while the other is confined by the short strap. It is a stout strap seven or eight feet in length, buckled to a strap with ring which is piaced around the foot. The end of the long strap is passed under the girth or over the back for the purpose of taking up the foot when we want to bring the animal to bis kne^. (See engraving " Learning to Lie ;) 309.
