The Tama and Toledo roadis of special interest in this regard because it was built in a place which to an outsider would seem to be verylikely to prove unprofitable. LOCATION. The road is two and a half miles long and runs fromthe center of one town to the center of the other. Each. TOLEDf) TERMINUS. town has about 2,000 inhabitants. The main lines of theChicago & Northwestern and the Chicago, Milwaukee& St. Paul Railways, from Chicago to Omaha, cross atTama. A branch of the Northwestern running to north-western Iowa leaves it at this point and passes throughthe edge of Toledo. Tama, as will be seen from this,is somewhat of a railroad center. Toledo is the countyseat of Tama county, and is more of a residence placethan Tama. A college is also located at Toledo, whichof course helps swell the traffic between the two all of the railroad travel that comes to Toledocomes through Tama. Previous to the starting of theelectric road a stage line ran between the two places,and the Northwestern Railway ran a special train morn-ing and evening in addition to the through trains. TRAFFIC. July 4, 1894, was the opening da}-. While it mightnaturally be supposed that a project of this kind wouldhave to be in operation several years
