Sir Morell Mackenzie; physician and operator; a memoir compiled and ed from private papers and personal reminiscences . urks in it whenused to excess. The recently published volume of Mackenzies s 2 260 THE EESPITB. Essays, in addition to some very smart criticismunder the title Reform of the College of Sur-geons/ contains some very pregnant observa-tions on Specialism in Medicine/ and Theuse and the abuse of Hospitals. We find alsoa carefully prepared report of the now almosthistorical lectures at the Edinburgh Philoso-phical Institute in 1889, entitled, Speech andSong, and a delightful account of his trip to theMediterranean on board the Chimhorazo in 1890. A notice of this, and a sadly prophetic andsuggestive last essay on Influenza, must closemy allusions to Mackenzies writings. It would be quite possible to collect and edita second volume of such remains, and I hope thata perusal of the present book, as well as thepleasure and instruction to be derived from thepublished essays, will inspire Mr. Alfred Mac-kenzie or some other competent editor to seek outand arrange a second volume for LAST VOYAGE
