First announcement of first manned rocket flight. The plan to build a manned rocket emerged from the Magdeburg Project, headed by Rudolf Nebel and Herbert Schaefer. The rocket was named the Magdeburger Pilotenrakete and would carry a man to an altitude of one kilometre, from where the pilot would bail out and return to earth by parachute. The first test rocket was launched on 29th June 1933 but was not a success and neither were following attempts, leading to the project being abandoned by the end of August 1933. Even though the Pilotenrakete never flew, it was a great promotional success, popularising rocket technology and the city of Magdeburg. Published in the periodical Raketenflug (Berlin) in April 1933.
