The Morning News was acontemporary of all those mentioned, and is the only sur-vivor of the newspapers of ante-bellum days. Leaving outthose that died previous to 1861 we mention onl}^ those pa-pers which are remembered by the present geneiation. TheRepublican, which was established in 1804, survived until1874, when it was consolidated with a younger rival, theAdvertiser, under the name of the Advertiser Republican.
